Show us your sketchbook!

Attention all creative sparkplugs. Do you love to sketch? Do you own a sketchbook? Are you interested in showing off your sketchbook for the world to see? If you’re interested, here’s an awesome opportunity to show off your sketchbook and inspire other creatives. It doesn’t matter whether you’re an artist, fashion designer, or illustrator, we just want to show off your sketchbook to inspire other people who love creativity. If you’re interested, here’s what you’ll need to provide us with:

A .jpeg of your sketchbook. Send only one page, not two. (If you have a sketchbook with very small pages, you may send one photo of two side by side pages.)
The photo must be in landscape orientation.
A photo or illustration of you for your bio pic.
A short bio. Please keep your bio to no more than 240 words. Your bio can include links to your twitter, facebook, personal website as well.

Photographer Wanted

OGLE has plans for a huge summer. In order to make these plans happen, we need help. One of the areas in which we need help is street photography. That’s why OGLE is seeking a volunteer photographer who’s willing to commit 3-5 hours per week to taking street photos. Even though this is a volunteer position, we will provide an allowance of $20/week to be used for food, transportation, or other costs.

Requirements:

Live in Toronto
Be able to volunteer 3-5 hours per week
Own a digital camera that’s 8mp or higher
Own a computer with access to the internet
Take 5 street photos/week

This position is ideal for someone who loves photography and interviewing people. In addition, this position will also allow you the opportunity to work closely with OGLE on future projects, other than photography, throughout the summer. We meet a lot of people and see a lot of interesting things while traveling around Toronto. In order to start sharing some of these experiences, we have created our own Flickr page. We have also decided to use our new Flickr page to show off our First Impressions series. This way, you can view hi-quality photos with great detail. So from here on out, all of our First Impressions series will be hosted on Flickr.

Contest Winner: Mix CD Design

On February 9, we announced a fun contest that fused music, art, and design into one. This contest challenged all creative sparkplugs to design a front and back cover for a personal mix cd. The concept for this mix cd was left up to the creator. Skip ahead two weeks and we finally have a winner. Our winner is a humble Sarah C. (who kindly asked us not to post her last name), from Toronto, who won our contest based on her crafty, fun, and playful design. Congrats once again, Sarah, on your amazing design. Have fun shopping at Urban Outfitters.

Contest: Mix CD Design

At OGLE, a few of the many things we love are music, art, and design. What better way to showcase all three than by having a contest that fuses them. That’s why we are calling on all creative sparkplugs who have a passion for music and creativity to enter our contest to design your own Mix CD featuring 10 songs of your choosing.

Contest Info

For this contest, you will be required to submit two designs: a front cover and a back cover design for your Mix CD.

The front cover must include the following:

A title for your mix CD. For example, “I’m Single & These R My Lonely Songs”.
A subtitle featuring the first name of the person who made the mix CD. For example, “Mixed by Roxy”.
Any type of artwork and typography of your choosing that best fits the theme of your mix CD.

The back cover of your Mix CD must include the following:

A list of 10 songs that fits the theme of your CD.
Artwork that matches or co-ordinates with the front cover.

Your mix CD can be created by hand or by computer, it doesn’t matter. All that matters to us is that you send us a jpeg of your mix CD cover designs. When you send us your artwork, make sure it’s not shrunk to a small size. We would rather it be a little larger, so we can see the detail better.

Below is an example of a completed submission. You may present it anyway you like.

Prize Info

The winner of this prize will get a $60 gift card to Urban Outfitters. Only 60 bucks you say? Look at it this way, it’s a fun way to win $60 to spend on whatever you want at a really awesome store. Besides, it beats our original idea of giving away a certificate of appreciation.

Who Can Enter?

This contest is open to anyone, 13 years or older, living in Canada. The closing date for this contest is February 21, 2009, at 7:00pm. If we end up getting a lot of kick-ass entries, we plan to buy more gift cards to Urban Outfitters, so we can provide second and third place prizes. TO Events Update

If you’re familiar with our website, you’ll have noticed that we took down our TO Events page. “What gives?”, you ask. We are in the process of rejigging it. Look for TO Events to reappear in the new year. Also, our new background illustration for OGLE is almost ready for lift off, so keep an eye out.

The Return of the King

In a previous poll, we wanted to find out which watch had more style, Nooka or Adidas. Well, we found out alright. Nooka beat Adidas by a vote of 37-0. It’s been a while since we saw a good KO like that. However, in fairness to Adidas, they were punching above their weight. After all, when it comes to style, Nooka is a pure heavyweight. This time we decided to match Nooka with someone it’s own size, Nixon. Who will walk away the winner? Cast your vote to find out.
